Summary/Abstract: In the paper, the authors consider the relation between the attitude to-wards the church and the interest in politics. The attitude towards the church isoperationalised through two questions: one measuring whether the churchgives answers to moral issues, spiritual needs, family and social issues, whereas the other measures the degree of trust in the church (“very high”,“high”, “not so high”, “none”). The interest in politics is measured through thefollowing indicators: the interviewee’s attitude regarding how important poli-tics is in his/her life, the frequency of political communication, the degree ofinterest in politics, and the degree to which politics is followed in the media. The authors’ starting assumption is that, with the citizens of Serbia, a positiveattitude towards the church is in a negative correlation to their interest in poli-tics i.e., the more positive the attitude towards the church, the less interest thereis in politics. In the paper, the authors rely on the analysis of secondary EVSdata. Our approach is based on specific conditions of a transitional society suchas Serbia. The hypothesis is partially confirmed in the issue of how importantpolitics is in the lives of citizen of Serbia as well as their interest in politics.
