Summary/Abstract: The current global security context has a specific feature - the high level of instability. The main subjects of international law are constantly looking for new strategies to streamline efforts to guarantee international security. That is why regional organisations, such as the European Union, are expanding their partnerships and adopting a wide variety of strategies with distant territories and regions to maximise the outcome sought by the international community, namely global security, and economic and social development. The EU is increasingly interconnected with the Indo-Pacific region. The current volatile security environment and geopolitical changes have been intensively debated and analysed by policymakers, with the most recent formal meeting taking place in Brussels on 2 February 2024 at the 3 EU-Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum. Growing global tensions rd - Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, rivalries in the East and South China Seas, ten- sions in the Taiwan Strait, Vietnam or the Philippines - have all prompted the EU and Indo-Pacific states to cooperate and develop political, diplomatic and security partnerships to protect and ensure respect for international law and promote a rules-based world order. The EU is taking an increasing interest in the Indo-Pacific region, as evidenced by the adoption of the “EU Strategy for the Indo-Pacific Region” in September 2021, with the EU and its Member States cooperating with states in the region based on common principles and directions for action for a comprehensive ap- proach to the challenges facing international security today. The paper aims to identify the main security threats and challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and analyse their impact on global security, as well as specific joint directions for action with the states in the region to counteract the negative effects that may jeopardise stability and development. An analysis of the means and instruments used by the EU to address these challenges will also be carried out, and finally , EU development opportunities in the region will be identified, as well as directions for cooperation that would 1 contribute to the management of these challenges.
