Author(s): Karolina Bogacz-Kańka
Subject(s): Theology and Religion
Published by: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego
Keywords: Pentecostalism; religious discourse; conceptual metaphor; embodied simulation

Summary/Abstract: This article presents an analysis of 35 phrasemes used by Polish Pentecostal Protestants. These expressions include conceptual metaphors, whose source domain is either an action undertaken by parts of the body or a sensuous experience. Target domains are, on the contrary, particular elements of Pentecostal spirituality – “spiritual breakthrough,” prayer and obedience to God. The source of the research material is based on interviews conducted by the author of the article. In its essence, the study marks an attempt to describe the reasons for the presence of these types of metaphors in analyzed expressions and to indicate the influence of so-called embodied simulation on the way how the beforementioned elements of spirituality are perceived.
