Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the relationship between the increase in emissions and the performance of climate finance mechanisms, assessing the extent to which they support or limit progress towards real sustainable development. The major emission sources, public policy developments, the absorption rate of green funds, as well as the coherence between climate priorities and investments made in key areas such as energy, transport, agriculture are investigated. The results suggest that, despite the existence of functional financing mechanisms, the lack of integrated planning and administrative capacity limits the real impact of these funds. The study highlights the need for a more coherent and predictable framework for climate finance, as well as more efficient control over emissions, as essential preconditions for achieving a sustainable development model adapted to the socio-economic realities of Romania.
