Summary/Abstract: The state of emergency declared because of the health crisis generated by Covid-19 in Spain has highlighted the need to articulate cross-cutting social measures so that both the most vulnerable people and productive sectors are not left behind, with the risk of timeliness and increased poverty appreciated in the future if not acted immediately. Within this context, the so called Minimum Vital Income was born, in an accelerated but necessary way, whose objective is to correct the high levels of inequality and extreme poverty in Spain, levels that, until now, have not been fully corrected with the regional models of minimum income that have also been aggravated by the health crisis of Covid-19. The objective of this work is to analyze the so called minimum living income that was approved through Royal Decree-Law 20/2020 of 29May. This is a fairly broad rule, with the structure of nine chapters, thirty-seven articles, five additional provisions, seven transitional provisions, a repeal provision, eleven final provisions and two annexes. This new benefit, although born within a certain structure and in order to respond to immediate needs, the truth is that it has a structural vocation within the Spanish Social Security system and aims not only to protect certain specific groups or individuals, also expands its coverage to society as a whole, in order to meet challenges such as "more uncertain careers, new vulnerabilities such as the highlighting of the Covid-19 crisis, economic transformations associated with robotization or climate change, and in general greater volatility in income and jobs, problems that almost no one will be immune from, but which will particularly affect the most vulnerable social groups."
