Summary/Abstract: The recent dispute between Greece and Turkey over the Aegean maritime borders demonstrates to us the importance of maritime resources for the countries of the world and also the need to apply appropriate mechanisms for the prevention and peaceful settlement of international disputes. Of course, such differences take place in a complex geopolitical framework and are often not limited to the resources themselves. The 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea provides a complex, highly elaborate framework, combining all kinds of means of resolving disputes, both political, diplomatic and jurisdictional. An important role in this mechanism is given to diplomatic negotiations, which is the most frequently used political diplomatic means in international practice. The conciliation procedure is also widely regulated, although international practice in the field is low. The system is based on fundamental principles of international public law such as: peaceful settlement of disputes, freedom to choose the means which are widely regulated in the Convention.
