Summary/Abstract: Testing languages for specific purposes (LSP) involves the development of assessments grounded in real-life contexts. LSP testing is characterized by the authenticity of tasks, which reflect the essential features of target language use situations, and the integration of domain-specific content knowledge. This interplay between linguistic and content knowledge enhances the validity and reliability of assessments. Consequently, test developers should formulate criteria specifically tailored to LSP tasks. This paper aims to define LSP/ESP testing, describe its theoretical underpinnings, and provide examples of ESP assessment tasks and criteria within an academic context.
