Summary/Abstract: "The article analyzes the difficulties and challenges encountered during the development of test tasks for the Belarusian language certification exam at levels B1 and B2. The author addresses issues in the field of higher education didactics and foreign language teaching, considering the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The topics discussed in the article are relevant to all ""less commonly taught"" languages. On the one hand, the author, as an educator, describes the CEFR-driven requirements in the methodology of teaching and evaluating foreign languages. At the same time, as a test designer and examiner, the author provides examples of challenges in creating certification tests at levels B1 and B2. Special attention is given to the unfavorable situation of the Belarusian languagewithin Belarus and the language policy pursued in the country, which results in the limited publication of Belarusian materials and the minimal availability of teaching."
