Summary/Abstract: This study aims to highlight the remarkable personality of Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror, who succeeded in fulfilling the dream of many of his predecessors: to conquer Constantinople. Very skilled and endowed with exceptional qualities, especially in the art of war, the young sultan will remain in history through his achievements. With uncertain origins and a rather unhappy childhood, Mehmed will overcome, through his ambition and devotion, all obstacles that stood in the way of his lofty goals. Shortly after ascending to the Ottoman throne, he made sure to conclude peace treaties with all possible adversaries who could contribute to the defence of Emperor Constantine Dragases city. The latter seems to have been one of the first people to sense that the young Sultan was not at all incapable and inexperienced as some believed, but on the contrary, very dangerous for the empire. The Sultan skilfully took advantage of the misunderstandings among Christians, the fact that the city had become isolated, and the unfulfilled promises of the Latins. The West seemed to await the conquest of Constantinople, only caring about its own problems. After a siege that lasted almost two months, the Sultan, at the age of only 21, conquered the coveted capital on the morning of May 29, 1453. After the conquest, he will focus on the reconstruction of the empire and will make efforts to maintain friendly relations among those who remained within his borders. From studying his personality, we deduce that Mehmed was a remarkable sultan, very capable and wise. He trusted no one, and if deceived, he became ruthless. At the same time, however, he had a profound respect for culture, was interested in philosophy and arts, and his main concern was ensuring the welfare of his people. For all these reasons, he will remain in history as one of the most brilliant leaders the Ottoman Empire has ever had.
