DEVELOPMENT OF REGIONAL INNOVATION IN BEKES COUNTY IN THE 1970 - 1980-S

Summary/Abstract: Incorporation of the “knowledge economy” led to the strengthening of innovation research in the most developed countries. It has become obvious by now that development of a modern economy is directly connected to the production, circulation and use of knowledge and information. Hungarian innovation research has just recently taken notice of the outstanding role played in the competitiveness of regions of regional research and innovation systems. According to some people, innovation is the offspring of market economy, for this reason, in fact, they deny that this could have been effective during the former socialist regime. The author followed the process of modernisation accomplished in the 1970s and 1980s in an underdeveloped region of the south-eastern part of Hungary. His examination enriches the one-sided picture of the socio-economic reality of the era with numerous new data.
