Summary/Abstract: In this article we aim to analyze how the phenomenon of politeness at the structural and pragmatic level is reflected in the teaching-learning process of the Romanian language as a foreign language. The grammatical procedures used to render polite behavior in Romanian are not sufficient to understand and apply this concept, therefore an additional effort is needed from the teacher to develop the sociocultural competence during the learning program. To raise awareness of the importance of teaching of this phenomenon to foreign students we will briefly present the grammatical procedures specific to the concept of politeness from specialized literature and from RLS textbooks, and later we will exemplify didactic sequences involving politeness. Furthermore, we want to emphasize that the phenomenon of politeness is an important part in the acquisition of the sociocultural competence by the foreign students.
