Summary/Abstract: The current literature review provides an overview of existing research on the use of automated decision making (ADM) systems in the public sector, highlighting their potential to increase its efficiency and accuracy. It looks at the application of ADM in areas such as social assistance, customs and public procurement, where algorithms and artificial intelligence facilitate decision-making processes. While ADM systems offer advantages in reducing bias and speeding up the services, they also present a number of challenges. Such are issues of transparency, accountability, ethics and compliance. The analysis concludes also that future research is needed aimed at mitigating the risks associated with ADM, improving regulatory frameworks and ensuring that these systems operate transparently and fairly in the public sector.
