Summary/Abstract: The exposition is based on life-stories of three persons — Bulgarian immigrants in Austria. They left Bulgaria at the beginning of 1990s, looking for "the life of their dreams" in Western Europe. These personal stories raise the question what is the place and significance of ordinary people in the global history. The autobiographical method is used. This method gives opportunity to study links between objective reality, personal memory and identity. Life-stories point out the value of individual history, which is as valuable as the official history, done by professionals. What is more, the article poses the question about signs of identity, a question about their stability (or insecurity) during the process of adaptation of immigrants.
