Pirates of the Hungarian Sea – DumaFüred 2023 case study

Summary/Abstract: This article presents Hungary’s first and largest stand-up comedy festival, the DumaFüred, which has been organized by the Dumaszínház association every July since 2012. The DumaFüred festival is a ten-day event of the Dumaszínház held in Balatonfüred since 2014, in the Balaton Leisure and Conference Center. The study deals with the event in a descriptive manner as part of the study of the activities of the Dumaszínház as a performing arts organization. It examines the structure of the event and the extent to which the event can be considered a festival. By analysing the content of the performances, I will show how the location and the festival are thematized in the performances. Observations are limited to the experience of the researcher.
