Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to demonstrate the use of non-propositional effects with the intention of manipulation, in an excerpt of Ion Marin Sadoveanu’ s novel, Sfârșit de veac în București (End of Age in Bucharest) (1944). Aside from the manipulator and the manipulated, there is another important character, the manipulator’s rival, which inherently complicates the plot’ s quiproquos.
