Summary/Abstract: In the archival collection DI of the Royal Castle in Warsaw – Museum, there is a memorandumfrom 1731 by Stanisław Poniatowski, Voivode of Mazovia and Regimentarz generalny(Commander-in-chief, replacing both Hetmans) of the Crown Army, which has not yet beenused in academic literature. It was issued for the cavalry officer of the troops of Polish (national)style (called autorament), Jan Jordan, Cup-bearer of Krakow, to collect 70,000 zlotys from theDiocese of Krakow and transfer the sum to the officers of the Crown Army as part of the annualfund of rewards granted for a given calendar year (so-called largicja in Polish). The paymentwas intended for separate regional army ‘divisions’ (partie in Polish) under the command ofRegimentarze Mikołaj Stawski, Piotr Siemianowski, Piotr Antoni Sokolnicki, Michał Józef Rzewuski,Józef Brzuchowski, Stanisław Świdnicki, and Adam Stanisław Rostkowski. Separately,Jordan was to spend money on an ‘extra party’, i.e. a group of officers not serving under theabove commanders. The memorial presents the state of organisation of the Crown army atthe end of the reign of King Augustus II. It shows how the largicja, a significant pay of the officercadre, was distributed. This text, along with other surviving sources from Stanisław Poniatowski’swork as the Regimentarz generalny, offers insight into the group of officers who contributedto the military environment of one of the most significant political figures of the Saxonera in the Commonwealth.
