Summary/Abstract: Recent research has verified the claim that high school students perceive a variety of career-related barriers. Lent, Brown, and Hackett's (1996) social cognitive career theory and Weiner's (1986) attribution theory are useful approaches to increase understanding of the role that perceived barriers play in career development. This article presents an overview of VPU students' beliefs about the career-related barriers they have met and provides the results highlighting the relation between the beliefs and years at the university. The main career-related barrier the students met in their last years at the university was incapability to find jobs after graduation.
