Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of an analysis of a small corpus created from elementary school textbooks. The analysis focuses on the vocabulary occurring across school subjects, especially the verbs and their collocations (e. g. patřit mezi, dojít k, označovat jako). The corpus was created in Sketch Engine, where it is possible to generate a list of the most frequent verbs, and then academic vocabulary from this wordlist was selected manually. The identification of the most frequent verbs that belong to academic language but are non-subject-specific can be a useful source of data for creating teaching materials aimed at Czech-language learners in Czech schools. These linguistic units are challenging for Czech-language learners, not only because of their abstract meanings, but also due to their forms (verb collocations, passive voice, word order).
