Summary/Abstract: Adapazarı has historically been profoundly impacted by earthquakes, among the most dangerous and destructive natural disasters. Depending on their magnitude, earthquakes result in loss of life, injuries, and significant property damage. Turkey has experienced numerous devastating earthquakes throughout its history, leading to both material and human losses. Adapazarı, in particular, stands as a city that has endured full-scale seismic destruction. Given the expectation of a destructive earthquake approximately every 30 years, the region remains under constant threat. During the Republican era, Adapazarı has been most severely affected by the earthquakes of 1943, 1967, and 1999. The 1943 earthquake is considered the most destructive in Adapazarı's modern history. Despite its catastrophic impact, insufficient measures were implemented, as evidenced by the extensive devastation caused by the subsequent earthquakes. The 1967 quake, occurring 24 years later, inflicted severe damage, while the 1999 earthquake highlighted persistent vulnerabilities. This study focuses on the 1967 earthquake, which left significant marks on Adapazarı, and examines its consequences for the city. Archival documents, newspapers of the period, and existing research will be utilized to analyze the earthquake's effects comprehensively.
