ISBN 978-619-245-369-5] This review is based on Prof. Mariyana Tsibranska-Kostova’s newest book, dedicated to Abagar of 1651, regarded as the first printed book in modern Bulgarian. Her book contains a competent and in-depth study of the history, the textology, and the graphic, phonetic, morphological and lexicological features of Philip Stanislavov’s language. The typed text of the original, its modern Bulgarian translation as well as the glossary are particularly valuable; they lay the groundwork for further studies of this important written record. The author manages to provide irrefutable evidence that the Abagar belongs to the history of the Bulgarian language, literature and culture.
