Summary/Abstract: Al-Tahānevī’s (d. after 1158/1745) work Kashāfu Istilāh al-Funūn wa al-'Ulūm is an important source that details scientific and philosophical terminology in the Islamic world. Written in 18th-century India, this work offers definitions of terms across a wide cultural and scientific spectrum. The section on “tasawwurāt” (consepts) holds significant importance within the text, as it relates to mental comprehension and perceptual processes. This article examines the entries related to “tasawwurāt” in the work, investigating the meanings of these concepts and their historical contexts. The main objective of the research is to elucidate how al-Tahānevī defines these concepts and to highlight their place and impact within Islamic thought. In this context, the questions explored include how the term “tasawwurāt” is addressed, the philosophical traditions it is based on, and in what ways al-Tahānevī’s interpretations of the concepts in the section on logic are innovative.
