Summary/Abstract: The right to life is a basic human right that is guaranteed by many international documents at the universal, regional and national levels, but despite this, every year in the world many people are deprived of their lives. The subject of the work is femicide as the most severe form of gender-based violence against women and a flagrant violation of the right to life that belongs to every human being. It is a model that includes the killing of women as a result of violence, which is committed by men against women, while women become victims because they do not fulfill socially imposed gender roles. As an absolute right, the right to life is protected from all forms of threats and injuries, regardless of a person's personal characteristics, gender, skin color, sexual orientation, etc. because woman is not a characteristic of only those societies in which there is formal dominance of men over women and in societies in which women are formally equal to men and formally have equal opportunities in all spheres of life, women often suffer various forms of violence that sometimes escalates to their physical destruction. In criminal legislation, in most countries, femicide is not classified as a separate criminal offense, but is classified under a special form of murder. Only a few Latin American countries legally recognize femicide as a crime.
