Summary/Abstract: Violence against women means a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women and represents all acts of gender-based violence that lead to or can lead to: physical, sexual, psychological, i.e., financial injury or suffering for women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether in public or in private life. Violence against women is an example of abuse of power by one gender over the other. Also, throughout thousands of years of history, violence against women has been encouraged by every religious community until today. Such a society's attitude towards women in the form of violence often results in a negative reflection that they themselves later become perpetrators of violence. The goal of this paper is to present some of the most significant characteristics of violence among women, as well as to indicate why they become violent in certain circumstances.
