Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the emergence of ecological thinking in Bulgaria, tracing key works from the humanities and literary fields. Special focus is given to the concept of “moral ecology,” which views ecological thinking as a moral quality, dividing people into groups based on their stance toward nature. The analysis includes examples from contemporary Bulgarian literature across various genres – poetry, short story, novel (by Diko Fuchedzhiev, Elena Alexieva, Kaloyan Ignatovski, Plamen Antov, etc.), with a central focus on water as one of the key ecological factors. Through these selected works, situated at the lower and upper boundaries of the contemporary cultural horizon, an attempt is made to delineate their commonalities through an understanding of ecology as a supreme ethical principle.
