Summary/Abstract: Knowing well the reality of Italian society, multiethnic and multicultural due to the dense migratory flows that Italy has suffered, Amara Lakhous tries usually to frame the actual condition of foreigners who have emigrated to the country: Africans, Arab-Muslims, Albanians etc. In the novel “The Prank of the good little virgin of via Ormea” that we are going to analyse, he focuses his attention on the gypsies. The Algerian-Italian author, on the one hand, clearly reveals all the details about the rejection and deformation of the gypsies by the host society and, on the other hand, reconstructs their identity by reaffirming perfectly their existence in northern Italy since the middle Age. Our research aims to trace the aspects of the deformation of the “other” Roma by Turin society by identifying prejudices, stereotypes, forms of repression and racism and by shedding light on the question of identity of this ethnic group.
