Summary/Abstract: Starting from the definition of the term - addiction and the related one - dependence, as well as from the multiple aspects that these terms reveal from the observation of the determining causes and the mechanism of action, I want to show their connection with the term established in the Christian-Orthodox space for these states and behaviors, namely that of spiritual illness or passion, hence the priority of a holistic understanding of addictive behaviors, as well as the need for a therapeutic approach accordingly.
