Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, the EU has taken a number of initiatives to ensure the health rights of people with rare diseases. The most important of these is the legislative activity of the Community aimed at ensuring the health protection of this vulnerable group of people. This report will present a brief overview of the main acts in EU law that regulate issues related to the fundamental health rights of citizens with rare diseases. A key role among the legal instruments in European legislation is played by Regulation (EC) No 141/2000 on orphan medicinal products, which created better conditions for the realization of the right of access to medicinal products for people with rare diseases
