Summary/Abstract: The present article approaches the status of Jürgen Habermas, that of the most appreciated in/from the constellation of thinkers of the Frankfurt School in China, particularizing two research aspects: the first emphasizes the fact that Habermas’s references to China are cataloged rare, limited and reduced only to the surface, but Habermas constantly refers to China (not explicitly named!), with equivalences and common dimensions able of translating a point of view from one context to another; the second aims at the very mechanism of China’s reporting to theory, through contextualization and particularization. In the corpus of the named debate, the issue of the Chinese public sphere and its structural transformation is located, as a relevant theme, part of the Chinese debates with international impact.
