Summary/Abstract: This article presents a survey and comparative analysis of the strategies and techniques employed by two Italian translators of 'Pan Tadeusz', Clotilde Garosci and Silvano De Fanti, in order to render the historical, social and cultural realia of the work. Using the categorisations proposed by Lia Bazzanini and Elżbieta Skibińska, realia shall be divided into geographical and natural (toponyms, environment), historical-cultural and social (customs, daily life, sayings and proverbs), those concerning social structure (titulature, administration) and anthroponyms and intransitive names. The analysis is based on the methodology proposed by Krzysztof Hejwowski.
