Summary/Abstract: The inhabitants of the European Union, despite such great diversity in terms of culture, religion and history, are united by a common identity and identification with democratic values, which is why the overriding goal is to strive to unify the provisions of the law, including those responsible for combating drug addiction. This article presents legal regulations in the field of counteracting drug addiction in selected countries of the European Union: the Netherlands, which has a liberal attitude to drugs, conservative Austria, restrictive Germany and caring Poland. The work presents extreme legal solutions in the above-mentioned countries and shows Polish legislation against them. It presents state institutions and bodies involved in combating drug addiction, analyzes the legal statuses regulating the possession of psychoactive substances and conducts a discussion on the pursuit of creating a uniform legal system in which the provisions would be consistent and would meet the expectations of the inhabitants of the European Union.
