Summary/Abstract: The Anglo-Saxons, by conquering northern England, almost caused (indirectly) the rup-ture of its inhabitants with the Roman Church. This gap was filled by Celtic Christianity. As a result, there was Christianization in northern England by Roman and Celtic missions and conflict betweenthem. When this conflict reached its apogee, a synod was convened at Whitby (Northumbria),which contributed greatly to the triumph of the Roman option. That is what this article is about.
