Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of this article was to conduct a bibliometric analysis of publications on cooperative banking research, with the aim of identifying the main subject areas, key authors, leading academic institutions and developments in the field. The paper analyses the development of research on cooperative banking. Methodology: The study is based on data from the Web of Science (WoS) database for subsequent analysis using the bibliometrix tool, which enables a systematic analysis of the structure and dynamics of cooperative banking research. Publications in economics, management and finance were included in the analysis, which allowed the identification of the most relevant publications and authors. Results: The analysis showed that research interest in cooperative banking has been growing since the 1990s. Key research themes are efficiency, risk, sustainability and the accessibility of financial services to excluded groups. Leading research institutions in this field include the University of Salerno and the University of Valencia. Implications and recommendations: The results of the analysis point to the need for further research on cooperative banking publications, particularly in terms of their support for sustainability and in the context of financial inclusion. The findings can facilitate the formulation of strategies for both researchers and practitioners seeking to empower cooperative banks in a changing financial environment. Originality/value: The article shows the results of a bibliometric analysis of cooperative banking publications, identifying key trends and leading research institutions.
