The risk in business activities in the field of road transport in the conditions of fuel price fluctuations – a case study

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to indicate the importance of fuel price fluc-tuations for companies involved in the road transport of goods in Poland and theresulting dangers. The article presents problems and the increased economic risksof running a business in the field of road transport of goods in Poland after 2019in the context of changes in the economic and geopolitical situation, includingchanges in fuel prices. The thesis posits that the rapid increase in fuel prices,especially after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and their high and unusualvariability increases the economic risk of running a business in goods transportby road. Here, a literature review, exploration of secondary data, and our ownresearch were used – a personal interview in January 2024 with an entrepreneurwho has been running a business in road transport in Poland for several decades.As a result of the research, the thesis was confirmed, and the significant impact ofthe increase in fuel prices on the costs of road transport and the economic stabilityof the examined entity was demonstrated.
