Summary/Abstract: The investigation is one of the most important urgent investigative actions that are undertaken at the scene of a criminal event in order to find, fix the case, traces of the crime, the perpetrator. Through the investigative actions of the competent body in the procedure of the first intellectual and subject perception of the "criminal scene" and the undertaking of the subject activities, the essential task and goal of the investigation is realized. This action has its criminal procedural foundation in all Criminal Procedure Laws, where it is unfortunately defined very briefly, in one, possibly a few sentences. The legal approach to defining the investigation does not sufficiently explain the character, content, and especially the technology of performing this extremely important investigative work. Such a situation leaves a big gap, space, but also the need and inspiration for criminal science to operationalize all aspects of the investigation. As this is a kind of criminal forensic activity of an organized and targeted investigation team, it is necessary to determine in detail the tasks and ways of functional cooperation of all participants. As there are different understandings regarding this important issue in the criminal investigation activity, the paper will give previously determined traditional understandings regarding this issue, and then, on the basis of some contemporary current events, opinion and possible proposals. The content of the paper will be supported by experiences of investigation practice.
