The Determination of Nouns.Morphosyntactic Contrast in Romanian and Italian

Summary/Abstract: Even though we have not been able to establish an exact chronology of the Romanian enclisis or the Italian proclisis of the definite article, this innovative linguistic fact has certainly aroused and will continue to arouse interest in many linguists. The fact on which most linguists agree is the demonstrative pronominal origin of the definite article. The different placement in Romanian compared to Italian makes the definite article a linguistic element characterized by its own grammatical and geographical specificity.
