Summary/Abstract: Wind energy is experiencing a big rise in terms of wind turbine manufacturing technology and market share. Wind turbine (WT) assemblies and subassemblies experience varying failure rates and their failures lead to downtime. To determine which part failures are more critical for a WT, consider the failure rate and downtime. The causes of failures and detection methods of some key components in wind turbines are summarized. Also, the most commonly used reliability analysis methods and the status of wind turbine reliability research were analyzed. After that, research focuses, methods and measures for improving the reliability of wind turbines are presented. Monitoring and supervision of the WT condition, whether it is the health of the WT parts or the performance of the entire wind farm and its power output, can be done using a condition monitoring (CM) system and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. . Reviewing published research on WT failures and reliability analysis, it was concluded that the most critical component for WT availability is the reducer because its failure results in the longest WT downtime. An overview of reducer failures is given and the prominent CM techniques used to monitor them are described.
