Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes digital representations of animals with disabilities in video games, highlighting the role such characters play in game narratives and gameplay structures, andexamines how disability narratives are constructed within these virtual environments.Animal representations in games posses a highly complex nature resulting from: theintersection of their digital ontology, the specificity of game characters as delegates ofplayer subjectivity, and the status of game environments as dynamic hybrid machines thatencapsulate affects, human/non-human agency, and automated procedures and intraactions. The article discusses theoretical relationships between critical posthumanism, disability studies, and animal studies, and then analyzes selected strategies for utilizingrepresentations of animal with disabilities in video games.
