Summary/Abstract: The most beautiful and important thing that generations leave to future generations is the cultural heritage that must be preserved and protected in the best way by people, and it is an important duty that all of humanity must undertake. Cultural heritage includes elements that have been formed throughout history and constitute the cultural identity of a society. The interpretation of cultural heritage areas refers to the process of giving meaning to these heritages. The interpretation process is of great importance in terms of ensuring the understanding and protection of cultural heritage. This article covers the Gevaş Seljuk Cemetery located in the Gevaş district of Van province, which is a historical cemetery area within the framework of the interpretation of Cultural Heritage areas. The tombstones and architectural structures in this area present important examples of Seljuk period art. The history of the cemetery dates back to the period when it was under Seljuk rule in the 12th and 13th centuries. The architectural structures and decorations in the cemetery reflect the architectural and artistic skills of the period. With these features, the Gevaş Seljuk Cemetery has great cultural and historical importance. The aim of the study is to examine the process of interpretation of the Gevaş Seljuk Cemetery within cultural heritage areas. The cemetery has a rich history in terms of history and architecture, and the interpretations made in this area are of great importance. The archaeological excavations used in the interpretation of the Gevaş Seljuk Cemetery include techniques such as documentation, photography and mapping. Through these methods, concrete data belonging to the cemetery area were obtained and a detailed data analysis was conducted. In addition, field studies were started in 2022 with the scientific consultancy of the Van Museum Directorate and Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Art History Department Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ercan ÇALIŞ, and interviews and on-site examinations with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ercan ÇALIŞ and experts in the field, where field studies were started in 2022, were also an important part of the data collection process. Through this cemetery example, a detailed analysis was attempted to be presented on how the interpretation process was carried out, which methodologies were used and how the obtained results contributed to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage.
