Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the discursive analysis of existence in Milcho Manchevski's Before the Rain (1994), which is considered one of the most remarkable works of Balkan cinema. Within the scope of the focus; the narrative structure of the film, the leitmotifs with which it is characterized, the place of the other and the non-conformist in the formation of individual and social identity, the representation forms of war-violence and migration concepts in the discourse were examined. The analyses have gained a framework in the direction that the recurring motifs of rain, time, and circle in the film provide a deep meaning to the lives of the characters and the flow of events, while at the same time initiating the audience to question time, fate and recurring cycles; that the "other" and "dissonant" characters are at the center of both individual and social conflicts and that both the individual and social sides of existence are examined through these characters; that the themes of war and violence gain meaning in the context of the characters' struggle for identity and existence and shape the main narrative of the film. As a result, it is seen that Before the Rain presents various depictions of "existence" reflected in the discourse by also using the effect of cinematic power.
