Examining the Relationship Between Perceived Organizational Support and Organizational Commitment: A Study on Health Employee

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment and to determine the differences in perceived organizational support and organizational commitment based on demographic factors. The population of the research consists of all healthcare employees working in a public hospital in Erzurum. The sample of the research consists of 338 healthcare employees working in this public hospital. In collecting research data, a questionnaire was used, starting with a form measuring the demographic characteristics of the healthcare employees. Then, the Perceived Organizational Support Scale and Organizational Commitment Scale questions were included. In line with the research objectives, independent groups t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were performed, and correlation analysis was conducted to determine the direction of the relationship between the scale and subgroups. As a result of the research, a positive and significant relationship was found between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment and its sub-dimensions, emotional, normative and continuance commitment. A significant difference was found in the averages of working hours, working positions and marital status of healthcare professionals, organizational commitment and its sub-dimensions of normative commitment. No significant difference was found in the mean of gender, age, monthly income, organizational commitment, affective commitment, continuance commitment, normative commitment and perceived organizational support.
