EMOTIONS OF STUDENTS DURING PRIMARY SCHOOL LESSONS

Summary/Abstract: It is difficult to define emotions, to express a definition of what they represent, despite the fact that they are the most important factors for our actions. They are part of the educational process to which, recently, very little attention has been paid because educational goals and tasks that students should achieve are increasingly emphasized in the foreground, neglecting educational goals and of course the reactions and feelings of students. The way classes are conducted also largely influences students' emotions and, of course, teachers' behavior during classes. The emotions of elementary school students are greatly influenced by the school's emotional climate, which can be pleasant or unpleasant. School climate strongly influences the development of positive or negative emotions in students. Why research students' emotions during instruction? Because they affect: teaching, the end result of students who strive to complete the school year as successfully as possible, their behavior, and the learning process. The purpose of this paper is to examine the feelings of students from grade 5 (classroom teaching) and grades 6 and 9 (subject teaching) during classes and how they behave. A total of 203 students participated in the research, of which: 75 students from grade 5 (as the last grade in class teaching), 74 students from grade 6 (initial grade in subject teaching) and 54 students from grade 9 (as the final grade in primary school) from the Primary School "Goce Delchev" Shtip. Of these, 108 were girls and 95 were boys. The research used an anonymous survey questionnaire consisting of items describing the feelings of the students during classes. The results obtained through the research are that students in 6th grade have feelings of fear and sadness during classes, while students in 9th grade are expected to be impatient, tired and bored. Students in 5th grade are expected to be surprised, satisfied and happy during class teaching. Students' emotions contribute to good or poor learning outcomes as well as student behavior. They need to be researched and more attention paid to them in order to avoid negative student behavior. Teachers are the ones who need to find ways to encourage positive emotional reactions in students.
