Summary/Abstract: At the time of the emergence of the first stages of an interlingual onomasiological comparison of Slovak and French, the need for terminology represented the essence of the appropriate methodology. The present study proposes an attempt to apply the terminological and conceptual cornerstones of Slovak onomasiology to a comparative onomasiological analyses of the two languages. It turns out that a considerable number of concepts are prone to direct substitution. Nevertheless, for any practical analysis, it is necessary to distinguish the elements specific to a monolingual onomasiological approach and those that emerge from the interlingual onomasiological comparison. The primary objective of the present study is to define and develop the formal discrepancies which are, on the one hand, limited by the lexicological traditions of the two languages, and, on the other, which have already been problematised on the comparative level for some time. The focus of interest is onomasiological terminology, which is inextricably linked to the theory of lexical motivation.
