INDICATORS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM DESTINATIONS

Summary/Abstract: The concept of sustainable development implies a balanced economic, social and cultural development that has minimal impact on the environment and allows future generations to develop at the same level or higher. The main instrument for planning aspect of sustainable development is an analysis of the economic, environmental, social and cultural indicators. When it comes to the sustainable development of tourist destinations, with these indicators we should add the indicator of satisfaction of tourists. There is no universally accepted formula for the realization of the concept of sustainability but some recommendations for joint action of spatial development planners, experts from different fields and key decision-makers on whose opinions, singled indicators can be used to perform analytical research and monitor the development of the area. Indicators are necessary for the evaluation of complex spaces. It is a complex and long process that involves a number of activities because of the complexity of the selection and implementation of adequate instruments for space management, evaluation indicators and interaction between tourism and other activities that develop in a given area.
