Summary/Abstract: The basic function of museums is care and protection of the museum objects. It is particularly significant due to preservation of those objects and their further existence. Apart from this type of care and protection that is carried out daily in museums, there is also specific protection of museum objects, which is carried out as needed, in case of war or emergency. But also in situations of natural disasters such as fire, flood and earthquakes of lower intensity, in conditions when it is not declared a state of emergency, there is adequate protection of museum objects of the evacuation type. It means planned, organized and controlled moving material goods from threatened areas to other safe places, a location far away from threatened place. In such situations, the protection and evacuation of cultural assets in museums is the responsibility of the Headquarters for Protection and Rescue, a mandatory body in every museum. The headquarters monitors the situation, coordinates the activities and directs the actions for protection and rescue. It prepares activities for implementation of evacuation which include organizational and operational measures and procedures. The members of the Headquarters for protection and rescue are determined by the museum employees.
