PUBLIC DIPLOMACY IN THE ERA OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN PROMOTING SECURITY IN INTERNATIONAL POLITICS –

Summary/Abstract: Artificial intelligence represents a major technological challenge that creates concerns both in the academic environment and in that of social practice regarding the manipulative nature that some of its applications can have in public diplomacy, when it is subordinated to security. The paper identifies and highlights the possible risks posed by AI through its use by actors seeking to misinform and manipulate public opinion in democratic societies. In the era of AI, the policies, strategies and practices of public diplomacy inevitably change, and this fact will lead to theoretical and methodological developments. The practice of public diplomacy tends to be contradictory due to the objectives pursued, when the security environment is in crisis or even destroyed by the existence of an armed conflict, as is happening today in Ukraine.
