Summary/Abstract: An important element in ensuring the rule of law, including the legality of public administration, is state control over local governments and their organs, operation and decision-making, in which the supervisory procedure conducted by the metropolitan and county government offices (hereinafter referred to as the "government office") plays a key role. The democratic local administration of a constitutional state in the European sense is achieved through free self-government subject to the law. The Act CLXXXIX of 2011 on Local Governments in Hungary (hereinafter: Mötv.), in addition to the provisions of the Fundamental Law, stipulates that the "Government, under the direction of the Minister responsible for the supervision of the legality of local governments, shall ensure the supervision of the legality of local governments through the Government Office." The body responsible for the supervision of legality is the Department of Legality Supervision of the Department of the Department of Public Authorities of the Metropolitan and County Government Offices of the territorial public administration body of the Government with general powers. Moreover, the Act also declares in its interpretative provisions that the government office in the interpretation of the Mötv. is the metropolitan or county government office responsible for the supervision of the legality of local government. The present study attempts to explore the methods and practices of government office reporting.
