Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to critically reflect on the challenges of using modern technology (in this case Virtual/Mixed Reality tools) for educational purposes in disability awareness training. The literature to date shows the great potential of VR tools in awareness training on various aspects of disability. However, there is a lack of critical analysis of the potential risks in using this type of technology in building images of people with disabilities among students and other groups of trainees. The article, based on a case study of designing educational scenarios in a VR/MR environment, attempts to identify the potential risks of doing so. The stereotyping of images of people with disabilities and deep embedding in the medical model of understanding disability, as well as the lack of inclusivity of the tool itself, are just some of the risks that may arise in the design and implementation of awareness training using VR.
