Summary/Abstract: This article seeks to address a significant gap in the research concerning the writ-ten works produced during the Nazi period in Danzig (Pol. Gdańsk). Until now,German publications from Danzig prior to 1945 have only been examined broadlyin general studies, in contrast to Polish periodicals from the period of the Free City, which have been more extensively analysed. However, detailed examinations of manyGerman periodicals remain scarce. This study proposes a thorough insight into theDanzig monthly Der Deutsche im Osten, published between 1938 and 1944 by thepublishing house Der Danziger Vorposten GmbH, comprising a total of 69 issues.Using empirical analysis, the article explores the political context of the magazine’semergence, its publishing community, and the contributions of local and external au-thors. The editorial board’s objectives are examined, emphasising its role in fosteringan opinion-shaping platform aimed at sustaining and strengthening bilateral relationsbetween Reich Germans and their compatriots in eastern enclaves. This mission wasunderpinned by efforts to preserve cultural identity and promote national unification.Through selected excerpts, the study highlights how the magazine shaped Germanreaders’ views on the historical past of Danzig and Pomerania, German-Polish rela-tions, and the implementation of nationality policies in territories annexed into andoccupied by the German Reich.
