Summary/Abstract: The article presents the activity of the Society "Tombs of Heroes Fallen in War", established based on Decree no. 4106, of September 12, 1919, renamed the "Cult of Heroes" Society, by the law voted by the Assembly of Deputies, on April 15, 1927. The mission of the Society was to discover the places where the graves of those who fell for the homeland exist, to bring to these graves the necessary improvements, to take care of the organization and development of the "Heroes' Day".In Brăila County, the Company acted through the Committees set up at county level, the county seat city and the communal ones. There were mainly two directions to which he turned his attention. For a start, he focused on the situation of the graves of the fallen, regardless of whether they were Romanians or belonged to foreign armies, either allies or enemies, requesting their inventory; along the way, the exhumation and relocation of the bones to the cemeteries of the heroes, specially set up, was sought. The second direction of action of the "Cult of Heroes" Society was to support the construction of commemorative monuments, lasting testimonies for the turning point in the history of the Romanian nation, as the sacrifice of the country's integrators. We wanted to draw attention to the deplorable condition of most of the memorials erected in the city and county of Brăila in the interwar period: degraded by time or unfortunate interventions, moved to other places, some suffering total changes of initial appearance, forgotten or vandalized.
