Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to highlight some issues concerning the adoption of children with special needs. Special needs represent a real challenge for the family in which the child will grow up, for state institutions and for society. Although the term " hard to place children for adoption" is no longer used, the issue and awareness of the needs of these children is just as topical. Adoption offers adoptable children with special needs a family, the chance of recovery for many of these children, because family environment, love and compassion are real doctors. Adoption heals wounds and makes life a gift again for adopted children. These children, who often become just a statistic, need the love of their adoptive parents, but also the assistance of institutions with a mandate in this area, such as post-adoption support services. Current legislative regulations, as well as the efforts of government agencies, associations and individuals concerned about the best interests of the child, demonstrate their concern to find a family for children with special needs. Although the reform of social policies in Romania is a real one, the child protection system needs improvement, perhaps the most important of which should be to change the prejudices in collective thinking that prevent us from giving all children, including those with special needs, the respect they deserve.
